World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The item upgrade lets players increase the gear rating of an item up to 700 points and add a bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you take them to the Kiln.
Certain items can be upp'd to increase their stats (like perfect rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while others like weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats like the chance to crit, attack damage PvE and PvP damage. Weapons also come with an unchanging bonus that increases their damage per second. Additionally there are many weapons with an added bonus that is activated when three or more of the same weapon is present on a unit. This bonus may exceed the damage a weapon upgrade can do on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon varies on its rarity as well as its current level. For example an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while a +3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade the weapon will continue to increase until it requires the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the amount will be reset to one.
Upgrades to weapons can also change the stats of their base. This is usually a good aspect, but it may also have negative effects. For item upgrading that only see use in a specific build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs for instance) upgrading them could render them useless unless you have an extremely lucky roll.
Items of armor can also be upgraded to boost their performance. This can boost the defense base of a helm or chest as well as belts and gloves. These will increase their required strength and agility. Armor also has an option to reroll its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it may reroll to a lower value.
The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats that it will gain upon upgrading, along with the relative values of those stats. This means that the weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% does not mean that it will strike 3 times less often as it is an absolute number.
A weapon can be rerolled by pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circular arrows within the item menu. This will roll an item and change its statistics, but it will not reset the weapon's level or tie it to the account status.
Armor
A few tweaks to your armor can make a huge difference in your capacity to withstand. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE increases in poison or curse, fire or magic resistance, making it easier to navigate through tough terrain. In general, the more defense you have on your character, the greater health you can receive from each point. Therefore, it's a good idea to upgrade your armor.
To upgrade your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four in total, and each requires you to complete a specific side quest that involves the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've done the main side quest and mastered the fountain in question you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.
Each piece of armor can be upgraded to three levels, and the amount of materials and Rupees needed for each level will differ. In general, you're looking at anything from three to five Red Chuchu Jellies and ten Rupees for the initial upgrade, then anywhere between five Rubies and ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent one. For example the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep up with a good-sized group of enemies in the majority of cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, granting the protection needed to survive the full-on assault with a handful of friends.
You can't upgrade your armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior then you should concentrate on upgrading your armor to increase physical power or the power of spells. It's also worth saving your armor upgrades for armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you wear for the final boss battle and the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.

By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. Generally speaking, you'll want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to beat the game, such as the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be useful to have some improvements to the chest armor and helmets that allow you to stealth around some monsters.
Potions
Potions are liquids that when consumed by a player, provide an immediate effect. There are five types of potions, each having a specific set of effects and durations. Certain potions can be upgraded to improve their level of effectiveness. You can also increase the effects of certain potions by adding glowstone dust and redstone.
Upgrades to potion require a certain amount XP. This can be obtained by crafting them on a table, or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. The price of upgrades varies based on the type of potion and the item's rarity and Mark Level.
To upgrade a potion to the next level, right-click on it in your inventory and choose the "Upgrade" option from the menu. This will open a GUI that lets you choose the potion that you wish to upgrade, and the amount of experience they'll give you when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches up to five at a time, and their XP will be added to the total XP you currently have.
Once a potion is upgraded and stored, it will not degrade unless you use it again or break the bottle in the container it is stored. You can also rename the potion by clicking on it in your inventory.
Version 1.7.2 introduced a few modifications to the way potions are used. Splash potions for instance, now have a duration 0:08 instead of the 22.5 seconds displayed on the item hover display. The potion table is now made of four Wood Planks, and two Glass. This allows it to be used by players in Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions aren't compatible with cauldrons like Java Edition. This is the same for using a potion in an empty cauldron. This will drain the liquid, and then refill the bottle.
Lastly, there are now lingering potions, which are made using dragon breath and splash potions. In the same way, a lingering potion can be enhanced by adding redstone. The potion table has been rearranged to appear more like the Java Edition. New potions have also been added for instance, the potion of leaping and decomposition.
Trinkets
A trinket is a tiny and affordable ornament or piece of jewelry. It could also refer to an object or ornament that serves a purpose, but isn't important as a thimble. In certain cultures, a trinket can be used to show affection or friendship between family members.
In addition to armor, weapons and potions, players can upgrade their trinkets. Upgrades can be made by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Trinkets like other items that can be upgraded, can be traded at will without losing stats.
Upgrade vendors are located at the capitals of each zone and in some cases in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are bought with tokens, gold or fragments of a rare trinket.
The upgrade of a trinket can be an affordable alternative to buying an entirely new one. It can be done by players for less than 12 tokens. The new trinket comes with the same base level as the old trinket, however, it will also come with an additional 1% bonus upgrade.
Trinkets can be re-upgraded once they're no longer needed, allowing a player to increase their power and worth over time. They can also be traded between players which makes them an attractive alternative to gold.
Players must upgrade their most valuable items first. This usually refers to the most valuable-in-slot items for their class, followed by their secondary items and finally, other gear items that they won't replace in the near future (for instance an earring or cloak). When deciding on which items to upgrade players should also take into account their class's preferred statistics. For example, if Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tankers, they should be focusing on upgrading their helm, chest, shoulders, and belt.
Trinkets can be re-upgraded to a higher ilvl once they no longer have value, and the new trinket will have an additional 1% upgrade bonus. However, a re-upgrade will cause the trinket to be destroyed, unless it is salvaged with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an additional salvage tool of higher quality. Upgrades to trinkets are more expensive than other upgrades, but still less expensive than buying new ones.
